We had a fabulous Kick-Off Party with our Shopping Tournament stores and sponsors!
Hill Country State Bank really knows how to throw a party! This is the second year (we’ve only been doing this two years) they’ve hosted our Kick-Off event.
It’s really exciting to see how the community involvement in the Shopping Tournament continues to grow. Of course, Fredericksburg’s unique, affordable, boutique stores have been the foundation for Shopping for a Cause. Last year we expanded to include the opportunity for other businesses to get in on the Shopping Tournament fun by creating various sponsorships. WOW! We’ve had an overwhelming response this year!
All of our participating stores continue to inspire us with the generosity and excitement they create from Kick-Off all the way through the 19th Hole Celebration. By providing tempting discounts, libations and nourishment, giveaways, and an overall FUN atmosphere, shoppers can experience guilt-free shopping. Shopping for a Cause directly benefits the kids of Fredericksburg.
Our over-the-top sponsors take care of all those other event necessities that make for an unforgettable experience. By sponsoring everything from the gourmet food and drink at the 19th Hole, shopping bags, volunteer T-shirts, brochures, maps, printing, prizes, and any other behind-the-scenes cost, we’re able to keep our out-of-pockets expenses extremely low, ensuring more for the kids and Club programs!
Once again, a heart-felt thanks to Hill Country State Bank for hosting our 2010 Kick-Off Party for our store and sponsor partners! ALL of YOU exemplify the unity in community!

How about Siptiniz, the spill-proof martini glass, for your next party? Or indoor/outdoor rugs that you can just hose off or scrub down! Nora Fleming ceramic serving pieces with seasonal accessories (you’ll just have to see it for yourself!) will make you look like Martha Stewart without the arts-and-crafts! Hand-painted metal trunks will serve as the secret hiding places when guests suddenly appear and t-shirt fabric, raggy shaggy rugs can instantly spruce up any area.

When you start wandering the other rooms in this quaint house, you will understand the need for a man room. Each room is decorated with purchasable vintage items and hand-crafted quilts by Texas women. Tawny’s sister, Jodi Barrows, is a world-renowned quilter and inventor of the Square in a Square Technique. Her fabric designs, patterns, supplies and quilts are available for purchase. She has also written a series of novels based on the inspiring stories of five generations of women in their family. Each story also features a quilt design which augments the story.

Not only will you be shopping for our cause, but you’ll also be supporting Fair Trade for a tiny little village in Colombia by purchasing La Chamba Black Clay pottery. This tiny village is believed to be home to the oldest pottery in the Americas! Gourmet for a cause also has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it?

Margo designs all the linens and features Carol Hicks Bolton fabrics in Threads. She employs local seamstresses for all of the bed linens, comforters and pillows and local craftspeople for the bed frames. She scours estate sales for antiques and transforms them for a new life. It is truly inspirational to walk into Threads.

The Shelby blouse is the new favorite! It’s pre-shrunk, 100% cotton and has a figure-flattering drape. Why have boring white when you can have concord grape or bordeaux? It has dress-it-up or dress-it down versatility! Be sure to wander through the entire store for stunning finds: jeans, blouses, slacks, dresses, tunics, leggings…there is something to keep you from that middle-age frumpy look! I’m telling you: it’s magic!

Everything is a unique find that has versatile appeal. Leather sofas with horn legs; leather and hide chaise; iron tables with slate tops; antique mission style side tables and buffets. Any of it would work in just about any decor (Louis XIV decor might be the exception). The lamps also have that rustic-refined feel with native woods, antlers and accent-colored shades for ambiance lighting. This wonderful collection of home furnishings and decorative accessories is locally hand-crafted, many from reclaimed woods or repurposed for sustainability.

As you meander throughout the store, you find antiques, fun signs, original artwork, hand-pieced quilts and unique decor. Whether you’re looking for small antique items like glassware, dishes or silver to larger antique furniture like benched and beds, you’re sure to find something that will work with any decor. Quilts, braided rugs and Pendlton blankets can cozy-up any space. And nothing sets a mood better than pure beeswax candles.
